Decapping Low-Speed Centrifuge: Care and Storage When Idle for Long Periods

The decapping low-speed centrifuge belongs to the low-speed centrifuge category (its maximum speed is usually within 4000 rpm and does not exceed 6000 rpm). Its decapping action relies on a specially structured recessed platform (the decapping basket/adapter): after a capped blood collection tube is placed in the platform, starting the machine generates centrifugal force that pushes the tube body downward, while the cap — having a larger diameter — is caught by the platform. The cap and tube body thus separate automatically, with no additional powered mechanism required throughout the process.

Routine Cleaning and Maintenance
- Centrifuge chamber: after each use, first wipe away dust and debris with a dry cloth, then wipe the inner wall and bottom with a soft cloth moistened with 75% alcohol or a neutral detergent, and finally dry with a clean cloth. Pay special attention to the gaps between the rotor and the chamber to prevent residual samples from corroding the metal. If condensation forms during low-temperature use, open the lid and let the chamber air-dry naturally for 30 minutes.
- Rotor and decapping adapters: remove them weekly for deep cleaning — soak in clean water or neutral detergent for 10–15 minutes, gently brush the surfaces and holes with a soft brush, rinse with distilled water, and invert to air-dry (use cold air only if blow-drying). Never use steel wool or strongly acidic/alkaline cleaners, which damage the rotor's protective layer; clean immediately after separating corrosive samples.
- Outer surfaces and control panel: disinfect the exterior regularly with 75% alcohol; wipe the control panel with a slightly damp lint-free cloth, taking care that no liquid seeps in and damages the circuitry.
Fault Prevention and Long-Term Storage
- Preventing faults in daily operation: strict balancing is mandatory (the weight difference between symmetrical tubes must not exceed 0.1 g); use the lowest speed that meets your separation needs to reduce the load on the motor bearings; always confirm the rotor is firmly secured before starting, and wait until the rotor is completely stationary before opening the lid — forcing the door open can damage the mechanism.
- Environment control: place the equipment on a level surface in a dry, ventilated location, with ambient temperature controlled at 10–30°C and humidity below 80%, away from water sources, heat sources, and corrosive gases; clean the cooling fan filter monthly to prevent dust buildup from overheating the motor.
- Long-term idle handling: if the machine will be idle for more than a month, clean and dry the rotor, remove it, and store it separately; place a desiccant bag inside the chamber, switch off the power, and cover the unit with a dust cover. Before putting it back into service, inspect the condition of all parts and run a power-on test to confirm everything works normally.
- Record management: keep a maintenance log recording cleaning, inspections, part replacements, and abnormalities. Standardized records are the most effective way to guarantee stable long-term operation.
